3D Ultrasounds
Ultrasound has been used in the hospital setting for many years. The exam has been assisting doctors in the visualization of human organs since the 1970's. With the advances in computer technology, ultrasound technology has grown dramatically over the last couple of years.
Along with an improvement in the diagnostic ultrasound image, 3-D rendering of these images are now possible. 3-D ultrasound images are produced by "stacking" many ultrasound images into one image that appears more "natural" and "life-like". The exam is performed in the same manner as a typical diagnostic ultrasound exam. Once the proper images are acquired, the computer then "stacks" the images together. This "stacking" is the actual process that makes the 3-D picture.
Once the computer has "stacked" the images together, the computer then can rotate this picture as to make new images that were never before available with conventional ultrasound techniques. These rotating images can then be taken from the ultrasound machine and manipulated like any other digital images.
